 Greenwash  n., v.: 
  1. The false claim of environmental protection, usually made by serious polluters with an image problem. Also, campaigns made to further such false claims. synonyms: Smart Growth, hypocrisy.
  2. Disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image. Derivatives greenwashing (n). Origin from green on the pattern of whitewash.
  3. Hiding environmentally destructive activities behind a thin or phony environmental facade. For example, Rancho San Carlos (Tom Grey and Jeff Froke etc.) calling its huge water guzzling golf course a "golf trail," and insisting their 30 square mile subdivision was actually a "Preserve."
